ALEXANDRIA, Virginia - September 23, 2026 - At a moment when many entrepreneurs would be accelerating, Nautical Health President Robert Granger is doing something deliberately unexpected: stepping away for seven weeks during one of the company's most active periods of growth.
 
Recent growth includes partnerships with Invest Qatar and the Qatar Financial Centre, plus a new engagement with Lillia, an AI-enabled chronic care management platform. Nautical Health is also expanding virtual training in the Middle East, including work with King Saud University, while continuing its nearly nine-year relationship with Complete Health.
 
One of Granger's final responsibilities before the sabbatical was serving as a panel reviewer for the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) as the agency awarded more than $300 million in grants supporting rural health and underserved communities.
 
Stepping Away While Business Is Growing
 
The timing is intentional. Rather than wait for business to slow down, Granger saw the momentum as an opportunity to create space for clarity, vision and thoughtful decision-making.
 
"This is an exciting season," Granger said. "I have new ideas, new opportunities and a lot to be grateful for. Creating space now gives me an opportunity to strengthen the vision, think more clearly and be thoughtful about what deserves my attention next."
 
The seven weeks will focus on prayer, fitness, family, rest and planned travel while Nautical Health continues moving forward.
 
Building a Business That Creates Room to Live
 
The ability to step away was not created overnight. Nautical Health has invested in stronger communication, greater efficiency and shared ownership. The company has 12 employees and will be led by its executive leadership team throughout Granger's sabbatical.
 
Before the sabbatical began, every current client was briefed, responsibilities were reviewed with the executive leadership team, and an execution plan was established to guide operations throughout the seven weeks and beyond. Nautical Health remains fully operational.
 
"You cannot simply disappear for seven weeks and call it balance," Granger said. "You have to prepare for it. You have to trust people, communicate well and build systems that allow good work to continue without requiring you to touch everything."
 
Granger hopes the experience encourages entrepreneurs, executives and other professionals to see achievement and personal wellness as compatible goals.
 
For Granger, the sabbatical is also an opportunity to model a different kind of professional success - one that creates room for others to lead while protecting the parts of life that matter beyond work.
 
Returning With Greater Clarity
 
After nearly 15 years of entrepreneurship and executive leadership, Granger sees the seven weeks as an opportunity to enjoy what years of hard work have made possible while gaining new perspective for the future.
 
"I want my colleagues to receive a clearer leader and the people I work with to receive a better partner and thinker," Granger said. "But most importantly, I want my family to get their son, brother, uncle and nephew back."
 
Granger expects the experience to influence future leadership and business decisions, but he is resisting the urge to predict the lessons before living them. He plans to share more afterward about how the company prepared, what the time away revealed and what may change as a result.
 
"There is more to share about how we prepared for this, what I learn and what comes next," Granger said. "But first, I want to live it."
