Summary & Learning Objectives

The Population Health course provides an in-depth understanding of how health outcomes are distributed across different groups within a population. The course explores the factors that influence health beyond individual care, including social determinants, environmental factors, and healthcare access. Participants will examine the frameworks and strategies used to improve the health of entire communities, reduce health disparities, and create sustainable healthcare systems. With an emphasis on prevention, health promotion, and data-driven decision-making, this course will prepare participants to work within healthcare systems focused on improving population health outcomes.


By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  1. Define Population Health and understand the key factors that contribute to health outcomes on a population level, including social determinants, behavior, and access to care.


  2. Examine the Role of Data in population health management, learning how to use data to identify health disparities and track health trends.


  3. Identify Strategies for improving population health, including preventive care, health promotion, and chronic disease management, with an emphasis on equity.


  4. Analyze Health Policy and Legislation related to population health, including the impact of policies on access, quality of care, and health disparities.


  5. Develop Population Health Interventions, using evidence-based practices to design programs and initiatives that target the most pressing health issues in specific populations.
